Sexual Disorder
Here is a list of common sexually transmitted infections (STIs), also referred to as sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), that can affect humans:
Chlamydia: A bacterial infection that can affect both men and women, often causing genital and urinary tract discomfort. It can lead to more serious health issues if left untreated.\
Gonorrhea: Another bacterial infection that affects the genital, rectal, and throat areas. It can cause symptoms like painful urination and discharge.
Syphilis: A bacterial infection that progresses in stages, potentially leading to serious complications if not treated. Symptoms can include sores, rashes, and organ damage.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV): A viral infection that can lead to genital warts and is linked to certain types of cancer, including cervical cancer in women.
Herpes: Caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV), it leads to painful sores or blisters in the genital or oral areas. There are two main types: HSV-1 (oral) and HSV-2 (genital).
HIV/AIDS: Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) weakens the immune system, leading to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). It is transmitted through unprotected sex, sharing needles, and other routes.
Trichomoniasis: A parasitic infection that can cause itching, burning, and discharge in both men and women.
Bacterial Vaginosis: An overgrowth of bacteria in the vagina that can lead to an unusual discharge, itching, and discomfort.
Pubic Lice (Crabs): Parasites that infest the genital area, causing itching and discomfort.
Scabies: A skin infestation caused by mites that leads to itching and rash, often in the genital area.
It’s important to note that many STIs can have no symptoms or mild symptoms, so regular testing is crucial, especially if you are sexually active. Practicing safe sex by using condoms and getting vaccinated (such as for HPV) can help reduce the risk of contracting or spreading STIs. If you suspect you have an STI or have been exposed to one, seek medical advice promptly.
